Admission Requirements

The BMS program accepts applications through PostBacCAS by Liaison or online through our MyBarry system. Only one application system should be utilized to avoid duplicating your efforts.

Admission into the Biomedical Sciences MS program is competitive given our limited number of positions each semester. As a result, applicants may meet minimum admission requirements, but may not be selected for admission. Your application will be reviewed for admission into the program based on the following criteria:

Applicants must have (at minimum) a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited or internationally recognized college or university with a record of satisfactory academic work at the baccalaureate and/or graduate level.
All applicants for the master's degree should have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale. Any graduate level work will also be calculated into the cumulative GPA and the resulting GPA should also be 3.0 or higher.
Applicants must have grades of "C" or better in the following undergraduate courses and corresponding labs: 8 semester hours of study in each Biology (I and II), Chemistry (I and II), Organic Chemistry (I and II), and Physics (I and II). We can consider Biochemistry lecture and lab for 4 credits with a C or higher in lieu of Organic Chemistry II lecture and lab. For students looking at Physician Associate programs, we have some flexibility regarding the pre-requisites for Organic Chemistry II and Physics II lectures and labs.
All applicants for the master's degree are required to submit one (1) letter of recommendation that can be from any of the following individuals: professor (science or non-science), advisor, present or former employer, or a healthcare professional you have shadowed. We will accept a health committee letter as well.

If you wish to provide a separate personal statement, you may do so. Since this statement is optional it should only be provided if you feel it supplies additional information that cannot be seen elsewhere within your application. Choosing not to submit a statement will not have a negative impact on your application.
The Biomedical Sciences MS program at Barry University uses a test optional admissions review process. If you wish to provide a graduate level test score, you may do so. Submitting a test score will not influence the admission decision.
If you have previously matriculated into any professional school (DDS, DMD, DO, DPM, MD, OD, etc), you will need to provide the transcript from that institution and you may be required to provide further information. You may also be required to interview with the Program Director as part of our application process. The benefits of the BMS degree may be limited by prior professional school attendance. We aim for transparency with any applicant in this situation.

If your first language is not English, you must submit a minimum score of 550 on the paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a 79 on the Internet-based version (iBT).

Application Deadlines

You may seek admission to the master’s program in Biomedical Sciences in the Fall, Spring or Summer semesters. There are no strict deadlines for accepting applications, although the following dates are considered priority application dates:

July 15th for the Fall semester
December 1st for the Spring semester
March 31st for the Summer Semester
