In recent years, the practice of 5S is commonly used among the Japanese firms in order to enhance human capability and productivity. Since it was introduced by Takashi Osada in the early 1980s, it is believed that applying the 5S techniques could considerably raise the environmental performance in production line including housekeeping, health, safety and more. At JSW the management felt that 5S practice was not carried out properly. Management wanted to identify the obstacle in proper deployment of 5S. Hence the study was carried to identify problems regarding 5S implementation & give suggestions for the same.

My industrial Training exercise was done at Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited (WRPC). The refinery was designed to process Light Crude into finished petroleum products. I was deployed to the Gas Turbine Section of Power Plant and Utilities (PPU) Department where I served for the entire duration of my training. I learnt a lot, from how Electrical Power is being generated for large scale consumption using Gas Turbines and how the generated power is then distributed. I also got the opportunity to learn about the functions and activities of various Departments and sections in WRPC that will be stated in details in the subsequent sections of this report.
